Liposuction or liposculpture is a surgical intervention through which fat accumulated in different areas of the body is removed. Although it can be practiced almost anywhere in our anatomy, the truth is that the most common areas where liposuction is performed are the double chin, the arms, the breasts, the abdomen, the buttocks, the hips, the legs, and the ankles.
It is essential to know before undergoing liposuction that it is not an operation intended to end obesity, but a surgical technique aimed at shaping the body through the elimination of excess fat and, also, the injection of adipose tissue left over from the patient in the areas that the patient wishes to mold.
Liposuction can be carried out under local, epidural, or general anesthesia, depending on the type of surgery and also on each patient. Regardless of the anesthesia that the medical team that treats you decides to apply, the operation will consist of inserting a cannula into the area of accumulated fat that you want to remove, which will send the excess adipose tissue to a receiving machine. The time that an average liposculpture usually takes is between one and two hours.
Any healthy person, weighing within healthy parameters and having excess fat in their body is a candidate to undergo an intervention such as liposuction, provided they are of legal age. It is important to note that it is those people with the most elastic skin who achieve the best results, as long as they manage to adapt the skin to their figure before the rest. People with cardiovascular or respiratory problems are not suitable to undergo liposculpture.
There are several liposuction techniques, each one of them to achieve different results, as we will see below. These are the main ones:
Classic liposuction: a technique that is used to sculpt and modify a body through the extraction of fat or the injection of adipose tissue to shape the body. Classic liposuction is used for getting a more refined figure and giving shine and visibility to the muscles.
Ultrasonic Liposuction or Vaser Liposuction: Ultrasonic liposuction is a technique that acts on the accumulated fat by diluting it instead of scrapping it as it happens with traditional liposuction. It is a technique that allows you to focus in detail on those areas where you want to remove adipose tissue.
Laser liposuction: Lipolaser is a technique that uses a laser to impact the fat to eliminate it, reshape it, reposition it, and improve the figure of the patient who opts for this technique. Unlike what happens with the rest of the liposuctions in use, this does not require hospital admission.
It is important to emphasize once again that this surgical intervention does not serve at all to end obesity, but rather it is an operation aimed at removing the fatty tissue accumulated in the body.
